Cardigan

I haven’t made many adult sweaters. Cre8tion Crocheter hosted a Fall CAL with her Keep Me Warm Cardigan.  I decided to join. I used Caron Big Cakes. This was the first time I had used the yarn. I really like it. It works up nice, has smooth color changes and has a slightly mottled look.

I did make gauge (I hate swatching but I did do it for this sweater). It ended up big and is a little boxy. There isn’t a lot of shaping that is done in the pattern. It is a well written and easy to follow. I will wear this Cardigan as more of a jacket. The pattern was released in  parts for free on her blog during the CAL but she also has it for sale here.

Pumpkins!

I love pumpkins but the patterns can be tedious. I recently tried three new ones and enjoyed two of them.

The rustic pumpkin is the brown one and the orange one in the other photo. These worked up quickly with bulky yarn. It was made with the inside of the pumpkin used for the outside and done in the back loops to help give it a bumpy look. The pattern is here by Meg Made With Love.

The tall orange pumpkin with ridges is also by Meg Made With Love.  I didn’t like it as well as it didn’t form like a pumpkin as well as I would like. The pattern is here.

The blue pumpkin is a pattern from Yarnspirations. I liked it because it is formed with sc’s and dc’s. There is no need for you to do any shaping. The placement of the sc’s and dc’s makes the pumpkin shape. I made it blue as I liked the ones that Yarnspirations showed on their pattern.  You can get that pattern here. The pattern has three sizes of pumpkins. I made the small size.

Subscription boxes

I love subscription boxes. It is fun getting that box of unknown goodies in the mail. I have tried a variety of them and was very excited when I found some yarn ones to try.

A couple of years ago, I joined a group from Fresh Stitches. You received the supplies for an exclusive pattern and sometimes an extra goody. I tried it for 3 months and then canceled. It seemed too expensive for what you got. You also had to login to a password protected area (that changed every month) to get that exclusive pattern. I would have rather had it included in the box.  I believe she has changed how she runs this group now. It is called Ami Club. Her website is: https://freshstitches.com/

This past spring I tried one called Happy Yarn Mail. I again tried it for 3 months but canceled as I felt it was too expensive for what you got. You received a hard copy of  the pattern, the supplies for the pattern and en extra surprise. One time it was a plastic water bottle with crochet printed on it and then it was a note book with crochet on it. I can’t remember the 3rd item.

The next one I tried is by Knit Crate. They have a Crochet Crate box. I like this box. You get a choice of a beginner or intermediate pattern that you get online but it is stored in your ravelry account. The yarn you get is nice yarn. More expensive yarn that I don’t tend to buy. That is fun to get that and try it.  This box also has a treat in it. The first box had a key ring with shortened crochet hooks attached to it. The second box had Halloween stitch markers. As much as I really like this box, I am planning on canceling it. It is about $45 per month.

My favorite box is Little Box of Crochet from the UK. It is about $33 per month depending on currency rate conversions. You get some fun yarn and a few gifts. This was my first month. There was a crochet hook, needle, stitch marker, yarn, pattern and a separate craft. I will keep doing this one to see what comes in some future boxes. I feel that cost is fair for what you get.

Reindeer Basket

I made this cute reindeer basket the other day.   The pattern is by Carolina Guzman. It is in the book Crochet for Christmas.  The book is on amazon here but I did find the pattern only on ravelry here.  The pattern was well written and worked up pretty quick, a couple of hours.  I used worsted weight yarn from my stash and not the recommended yarn  by Garn Studio Drops. I plan on making one more to have at an upcoming craft fair.

I am a little disappointed in the crochet book. I have only found a few patterns that I want to make but that is just personal preference.
