For the past couple of years, Red Heart has hosted a 12 week Christmas Crochet-A-Long (CAL). In 2015, I made a lot of the patterns but last year I wasn’t interested in the patterns they had. The 2017 CAL just started. This is the first week’s pattern put on by Pattern Paradise. You can find it here.
The placemat is made out of cotton yarn. I couldn’t find a Christmas Green at my local store so I used an Evergreen color I had on hand. I did enjoy making it. The border turned out nice. The last round is done on the wrong side and gives it a little bump/dimension. The snowman’s face was challenging for me. I am not that good at faces.
I will make a second placemat so I have a pair. The red base was a little time consuming to make as every other row is done in back loops. It used an H hook which was nice for my wrist. I personally don’t make much with cotton yarn as it hurts my wrist to use that yarn. This pattern was too cute for me to turn down making.
